The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has approved the Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) application from 250 Seaport District LLC for a site known as 250 Water Street, site ID #C231127. This site is located in the Borough of Manhattan, within the County of New York, and is located at 250 Water Street, across the street from SBT.   In addition to tax credits, the program also offers developers a release of liability for any contamination that leaks off property.  Instead, the Department of Environmental Conservation would pick up the mantle to clear any toxic materials that may have seeped onto nearby parcels.

250 Seaport District LLC has recently submitted the Draft Remedial Investigation Work Plan.

Here is a link to the draft. https://southbridgetowers.com/media/filer_public/a2/62/a2627199-fac0-4569-a76d-051367d9d712/2019-09-11_c231127_250_water_street_riwp_draft_for_release.pdf  Please review the plan, print, sign and return the response letter to the SBT Management Office or directly to our electeds listed on the contact sheet provided via email or regular mail.

What is the Brownfield Cleanup Program?

New York’s Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) is designed to encourage private-sector cleanups of brownfields and to promote their redevelopment as a means to revitalize economically blighted communities. The BCP is an alternative to “greenfield” (land not previously developed or contaminated) development and is intended to remove some of the barriers to, and provide tax incentives for, the redevelopment of brownfields. Since its inception (2003), the BCP has catalyzed the cleanup of more than 300 contaminated sites statewide and incentivized redevelopment. There are more than 350 active sites in the BCP.
